About Katy

Katy Perisic
BMus (Perf) (Hons) BA (Psych) (Hons) M Psych (Clinical)

Katy is a Clinical Psychologist who has over 17 years’ experience. She has worked in a university counselling support service, private practice, research within a hospital setting, and disability services. She is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (MAPS), and a fellow of the APS College of Clinical Psychologists (FCCLP).

Katy is deeply passionate about providing support to people who are experiencing challenges that are impacting on their wellbeing and functioning. She has extensive experience working with people with diverse needs and from diverse cultural backgrounds. In her work she draws on a range of evidence-based intervention strategies including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing). She tailors these strategies to best meet each person’s unique needs.

Central to Katy’s approach to therapy, is a client- centred focus incorporating strength-based models (including Positive Psychology) to encourage people who are experiencing and working through personal challenges to draw on their own resources and to develop strategies that will assist them in both the short term and into the future. Key elements she brings to therapy are empathy, sensitivity, compassion, collaboration, and supportiveness.

Prior to her studies and career in psychology Katy studied music and worked as a professional musician for many years. She has a keen interest in how people learn and has an understanding and interest in performance and anxiety- related challenges.
